Since the end of 2017 with the help of Gerry and his wife, voluntarily providing learning sessions, we’ve been sending Ukuleles to the Children’s Unit at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.
“I wanted to tell you the first session pre-Xmas went well (except I hadn’t planned for the many comings and goings of the kids, doctors, parents etc). Next one next week.
The ukes have a really nice sweet tone, so congrats to whoever sourced them. And the coloured strings make explaining easier.
From the hospital website:
The Unit provides care for children up to the age of 18 years with these conditions:
- ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat)
- Ophthalmology (eyes)
- Dermatology (skin)
The ward also provides care for those children with complex and chronic illnesses, many of whom require investigations or day care treatment.
The Children’s Unit has a schoolroom with teaching staff that can provide education while children are in hospital.
